How old is too old to work?

A new scheme in Tanzania is bringing medical workers out of retirement to fill in gaps in hospitals. The doctors and nurses from the 'retired but not tired' project will help run the country's under staffed health services.

In Zimbabwe, the government wants to increase the retirement age for lecturers from 65 to 70 years to retain staff. The country's economic meltdown led to an exodus of thousands of professionals from the country.

In Uganda, the National Youth Council wants the retirement age lowered to create jobs for the young graduates.

Should the elderly be recalled back to service? Are they taking away jobs from young people or are they simply filling in the skills gap left behind by HIV/AIDS and brain drain? How old is too old to work? Does the continent need its senior citizens to work past the age of retirement? Is it fair to them?
