    • Zanzibar - MEMBERS of the Zanzibar House of Representatives have asked the government to provide milk for its workers, particularly those working on computers for many hours, and in television and radio transmission rooms.

"Civil servants spending most of their time on computers and in transmission rooms should at least be given milk to help their bodies counter effects from rays," legislators said. The legislators, Mr Salmin Awadhi Salmin (CCM - Magomeni), Mr Hija Hassan Hija (CUF - Kiwani) and Ms Shadya Mohammed Suleiman (Special seats) asked the government to consider providing milk allowance.

However, the Minister for Public Service and Good Governance, Mr Haji Omar Kheri, said that previously civil servants were given milk, but later the programme was revoked due to dishonesty. We can reintroduce it after individual ministry's request and evaluate it if it is important to give milk," he said.
