Oil and gas firm, Aminex, recently reported the discovery of gas at the Ntorya-1 well in Tanzania. The group, which operates the project and its partner Solo Oil said that the Ntorya-1 well has made a gas discovery in the Ruvuma Basin onshore Tanzania, a UK based Proactive Investors reported on its website on Monday. Evaluation of electric logs from the well have confirmed the presence of reservoired gas, showing a gross sand interval of 25 metres with a three metre net gas bearing pay zone, said Aminex. About two weeks ago, an oil and gas prospecting firm, Statoil, discovered some amount of gas offshore around Mafia Island. The company is now assessing whether the amount is commercially viable. The presence of gas bearing reservoir sandstones in the Ntorya-1 well confirms the potential for additional prospectivity in the thick Mesozoic sandstones that were encountered in the Likonde-1 well, said Solo Oil. The well will now be deepened and suspended for flow testing once the company mobilises the necessary equipment to the site.

Will Tanzanians benefit from these discoveries?and alleviate them from poverty?

MY TAKE
Will Tanzanians benefit from these discoveries?and alleviate them from poverty?

To transform a chronic poverty stricken mind is almost impossible. Riches does not make a poor mind richer.

Look at Nigeria, the rich are getting richer the poor are getting poorer.

Tanzanians should never ever think that Gas, Oil or all the fortunes of the world can transform them. Transformation is within the inner-self of an individual and not a nation. Beggars will always be beggars.

With the current set of policies and leaders who are running this country, no doubts natural resources discoveries (natural gas, oil, gold etc) will never benefit the common Tanzanians. Ruling class will do and the rest will be spectators in agony which in the long run will trigger resource curse.

The major problem of our thinking is we have the slaves way of thinking, always we think of others "leaders" as the answer to our problems, why can not you be a leader of yourself? why wait for someone else?

We have been fed by slave masters for centuries to believe that there are "common" citizens and what? not so common citizens? if this is the way of our thinking we should never ever expect miracles.

You have to start thinking as you being the prime being and not a common (Tanzanian) and not so common (Tanzanian) being. Do not ever set for yourself the imaginary boundaries of commonalities. Do not ever expect someone else (a leader) to lead you to a treasure chest. You'll wait all your common life none will appear. Stand up and lead yourself, do not ever let anyone fool you to "stand up and be counted".

Each significant oil, gas, Uranium or any other mineral if utilised well can remove this country from poverty only if the revenue from its sale goes to treasury. Unfortunately, till now, all the revenue collected from existing mineral finds benefit the miners and a select few along the system.

If gas is mined in TZ, we wont have to import from Iran and abroad. We will use what is available at home and sell the surplus for the much needed forex.

Let us wakeup and make sure nothing goes into the pockets of a few in the system. Only we together can make a difference. But if we wait for this corrupt Govt at present........ We are doomed to an eternity of poverty while our riches make the rich richer and the richer the richest.

Mheshimiwa anafikiri hii corporate social responsibility ndio itatua matatizo yote ya umasikini yanayozunguka maeneo ya wawekezaji yaani ni balaa. Tena naogopa wasije wakamtafsiri vibaya rais wakaanza kuvamia maeneo ya wawekezaji wakidai chao wakati chao kipo kwenye mrahaba.
