GREAT START ... Wayne Rooney heads United in front at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED produced a masterclass in football to dump arch rivals Arsenal out of the FA Cup.
The Gunners may top the Premier League but they were outclassed in a fiery clash at Old Trafford.
Darren Fletcher bagged a double with Wayne Rooney and Nani also netting as United eased into the quarter-finals.
United boss Alex Ferguson was delighted with the performance after last week's derby defeat to Man City.
He said: “It was a really fantastic performance.
"The players looked great. They showed tenacity and the passing was terrific.
“They were so disappointed with themselves on a really important day last week.
"I think all the emotions of the week probably caught up with them.
“But today they’ve made amends for that with a marvellous performance.”
United had started brightly and Anderson cracked in a volley that Jens Lehmann saved before the breakthrough arrived in the 16th minute
Anderson flicked on Nani's corner and Rooney headed home for his 11th goal of the season.
And the hosts doubled their lead just three minutes later.
Nani chipped the ball into the area and Fletcher marked his first start in two months by heading past Lehmann.
It was all United at this stage with Arsenal looking lethargic and out of sorts.
Rooney clipped wide of the post — but the third goal arrived in the 38th minute.
Michael Carrick's superb ball found Nani, who skipped past Hoyte to score with a low drive into the corner.
Arsenal's woes got worse after the break when Emmanuel Eboue was sent off for a clumsy challenge on Patrice Evra.
Eboue refused to accept the decision and questioned the decision before being led away down the touchline.
Fletcher made it four in the 74th minute when he headed in at the far post from Nani's delivery.

OVER 'N' OUT ... Baros tumbles under Kuszczak's challenge, enabling
Muntari to KO United from the spot

SULLEY MUNTARI'S late penalty stunned 10-man United to put Portsmouth in the FA Cup last four.
Substitute keeper Tomasz Kuszczak - on for injured Edwin Van der Sar - saw red for tripping Milan Baros in the box.

And Muntari smashed his 78th minute spot-kick past emergency stopper Rio Ferdinand.
That rewarded Pompey's strong defending and punished United's recklessness in front of goal as Alex Ferguson's hopes of a second Treble in nine nine years ended. Harry Redknapp now has an astonishing FA Cup hat-trick to his name - scoring victories over United with previous clubs West Ham, Bournemouth and now Portsmouth. The Pompey boss said: "This was fantastic. We came here the other week and got slaughtered.

"This time we had a plan and we stuck with it. We grafted and we deserved it. "You always have to ride your luck. They are a fantastic team - they are different class." United were rightly furious at being denied a sixth-minute spot-kick. Sylvain Distin clearly bundled over Cristiano Ronaldo as he sped into the area and Ferguson's anger was obvious when referee Martin Atkinson ignored appeals for a spot-kick. Portsmouth's hard graft kept the home side at bay for large chunks of the first half.

But the Red Devils went agonisingly close three times before the visitors struck. First, Patrice Evra wasted a gaping shooting opportunity with an off-target pass to Ronaldo. Then Distin somehow blocked Michael Carrick's effort when the United midfielder dashed in to follow up a spinning ball on the goal-line. And England goalkeeper David James later tipped Evra's swerving effort onto a post.
But Muntari was Portsmouth's hero as he stepped up to convert the penalty which sent them into the semi-finals at Wembley and leave boss Redknapp in with a shout of his first FA Cup success.

GOAL ... Barnsley’s Kayode Odejayi celebrates scoring with Brian Howard and Jamal Campbell-Ryce

KAYODE ODEJAYI targeted the final after dumping holders Chelsea out on the biggest day ever for quarter-final shocks. The striker outjumped Blues keeper Carlo Cudicini to head Barnsley's 66th minute winner - his first goal for SIX months. Now the Championship strugglers will join Manchester United's conquerors Portsmouth in making a last-four trip to Wembley. Odejayi said: "That's the glory of the FA Cup. It's a magical tournament and this just proves it again.

"We've knocked out Liverpool and knocked out Chelsea, so who knows, it could be our year. "After the teams we've turned over already you never know." Chelsea boss Avram Grant admitted: "We didn't play well, especially in the first half, and all the credit to Barnsley. "They won against Liverpool, they won against us. All credit to them and I congratulate them. "We conceded the goal and we couldn't score.

"I am very, very disappointed and sad about this. It's an important competition." Barnsley's non-stop battlers frustrated the Blues for long spells, Tykes star Istvan Ferenczi even hitting a post early on with a half-volley. Chelsea were mostly limited to half-chances, although Robert Kozluk twice saved impressively from Joe Cole. The England midfielder provided many of the Blues' liveliest moments, but drilled their best opening wide.

And, when Barnsley broke swiftly down the right, Martin Devaney whipped in a cross that Odejayi nodded home from six yards. Chelsea's second-choice stopper Cudicini should have done far better than a meek challenge. But Odejayi's bulky menace often troubled the Blues' rearguard. And the Tykes deserved their luck on an afternoon when simple, old-fashioned defending thwarted the Champions League quarter-finalists. Barnsley somehow fended off the Blues' incessant raids in the last 15 minutes. So now Grant will be under greater pressure after two domestic cup calamities in the past month.

Tottenham outplayed Chelsea to win the Carling Cup final. But being outbattled by a side 36 places below them in the world's top domestic knockout competition is a far more serious offence for the Blues. Grant said: "We had a chance to do something in this competition and we didn't do it, so now we need to look forward for the league and Champions League." Tykes chief Simon Davey said: "We went to Liverpool and put on a show. People said we couldn't do it again but we've only lost twice here all season and I believed we could do it. "All the credit has got to go to the players. To take on a team like Chelsea, with the millions they've got is unbelievable. "We had a game plan and it worked. I've never been to Wembley. I can't wait."

Two teams outside the top 4 of premiership playing the FA cup final is good for english football. Itakuwa pia ni vizuri if Chelsia will go on and win the champions league.

HAPPY HARRY ... Pompey boss Redknapp shows off the FA Cup

Winning is a dream come true

HARRY REDKNAPP saw Portsmouth lift the FA Cup and admitted: It's a dream come true. Redknapp put a rough season behind him to lead the club to their first Cup win since 1939.

The former West Ham boss was overlooked for the England job in December.
He then appeared ready to take the Newcastle hotseat a month later only for a last-minute change of heart. And only last month, Redknapp suffered the death of his sister-in-law Pat, mother of Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.
But after Pompey's Wembley heroics, Redknapp is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of Europe's big boys in the UEFA Cup next season.
The Pompey boss said: "It's fantastic for me, the players, the fans, for everybody — and my family especially.

"It's been a difficult year for me but to come here and win the FA Cup is a dream come true." Redknapp was quick to praise Cardiff for ensuring Pompey did not run riot after Kanu opened the scoring in the 37th minute. He added: "They put us under a lot of pressure with balls into the box and we had to deal with a few difficult situations. "Cardiff played well and there's no easy games in the FA Cup.

"But when we get in front we're difficult to break down. "The lads at the back were superb. Dave James, Sol Campbell, Slyvain Distin, Hermann Hreidarsson and Glen Johnson have been top class this season. "I love all the players and it's brilliant to think we'll be playing in Europe next season."
