We are currently seeking an Engineer/Irrigation/Rice Expert for an anticipated USAID-funded Staples Value Chain project in Tanzania.
The project's primary objective will be to increase rice and maize production and competitiveness.
To this end, technical components will focus on improved farming techniques and best practices; improved farm management; increasing market linkages and competitiveness; trade facilitation and regulatory reform; value chain development for vulnerable groups; and other activities that promote food security.

* Provide technical support for irrigation water management in the project zone and advise on water management/irrigation methods at appropriate levels.
* Analyze, design and implement both soft and hard technologies for irrigation schemes, particularly with regard to rice production and productivity.
* Develop and implement a training program in techniques and standards of water use, including maintenance, procurement and user rights.
* Facilitate communication among the various actors involved in water management.

* Minimum 10 years' experience in a mix of infrastructure development and management, irrigation and agricultural development programs.
* Demonstrated experience in implementing programs aimed at rehabilitating infrastructure, developing irrigation schemes, and promoting rice production and productivity.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing value chain and rural finance.
* Excellent communication, technical and reporting skills.
* Fluency in English is required.
