    JOB TITLE: INTERVIEWER

    INSTITUTION:
    National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR)-Tabora Research Centre located within Tabora Municipality at Boma-road, it is one of the NIMR’s Research Centres and is mandated to conduct research on epidemiology and chemotherapy of Human African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping sickness), Health Systems Research, Malaria and HIV/AIDS with the ultimate goal of combating health related problems in the community. Amongst the current research activities include the Site Identification and Development Initiative (SIDI) study that aims at determining the feasibility of further capacity building activities for HIV prevention research in Tabora, by identifying and estimating population of women at higher risk for HIV infection and describing the behavioural practices of this population. The study has two components namely community mapping activities which have been done and a behavioural survey component. The study in Tabora is done in collaboration between NIMR- Tabora Research Centre and Family Health International (FHI) of USA.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    -Provide information to respondents regarding the research procedures and answering all questions that respondents may have to their satisfaction before collecting data.
    -Conduct female interviews (in Swahili) for community mapping and behavioral surveys both handwritten and audiotape accordingly.
    -Transcribe and translate (Swahili to English) the appropriate interviews
    -Perform any other relevant duties assigned by Mentors.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Only female applicants are invited and must have at least First Degree preferably in Social Sciences from a recognized University. Interested holders of degrees other than social sciences such as Biological sciences may as well apply.



    SKILLS:
    Experience in health research in general and computer literacy are strongly preferred. The incumbent should possess strong oral and written communication skills. Internal motivation, ability to prioritise work and multi-task, and collegiality for cooperative activities are necessary.

    RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE:
    Short listed applicants will be invited for interviews to be held at NIMR-Tabora Research Centre in Tabora Municipality.Please take note that institution is looking for the applicants locally available in Tabora. However, applicant from outside Tabora may apply although institution will not be responsible for transport, accommodation and meals when presenting themselves for interview and subsequently when engaged for the post. If residing outside Tabora Municipality you are advised to make arrangement of staying for about two days.

    TENURE
    The successful applicants will be employed on contract basis for four months w.e.f. 1st July 2009 through to 31st October 2009.
