Dr. Aloyce Nzuki: The new boss of TTB

A few months after the statutory retirement of the former chief executive officer of the Tanzania Tourist Board, Mr. Peter Mwenguo, President Jakaya Kikwete has appointed Dr. Aloyce Nzuki to take over the very competitive and high-ranking position in Tanzania’s tourism sector.

The President appointed Dr. Nzuki, who until last month was an assistant professor at Salalah University in Oman. Dr. Nzuki, a highly-qualified tourism professional, worked with Tanzania’s ministry for natural resources and tourism as an assistant director of tourism.

He holds a doctorate degree in tourism development from Clemson University of South Carolina in the United States, which he graduated from a few years ago.

Before joining the tourism industry, Dr. Nzuki studied statistics at Makerere University in Uganda then masters degree in tourism marketing at Surrey University in UK before pursuing his doctorate degree in tourism.

Upon taking over the high-ranking job in Tanzania’s fast-growing tourist industry, Dr. Nzuki will join a team of tourism professionals in marketing and will work to promote tourism in new emerging markets in the world parallel to traditional market sources.

Tanzania is currently targeting the newly-emerging tourist markets of China, India, Japan, and the former socialist countries of Eastern Europe. The 2010 FIFA World Cup is the other target which Tanzania is looking to add value to its tourist products.

Tanzania, the largest country in East Africa, is focused on wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism, with approximately 28 percent of the land protected by the government.

It boasts 15 national parks and 33 game reserves and the world’s acclaimed Ngorongoro Crater, often called “The Eighth Wonder of the World;” Olduvai Gorge, the Cradle of Mankind; the Selous Game Reserve, the world’s largest wildlife reserve; and Ruaha, now expected to be the largest national park on the African continent.

Since taking over the top leadership of this African safari destination, President Kikwete has been actively campaigning for his country’s tourism development through his foreign entourages and local trips in both political and economic missions.

The Tanzania Tourist Board is a government organization, which was legally established by the Tanzania Tourist Board act, CAP 364 of 1962 and amended by Act No. 18 of 1992. The board was formed after the disbandment of the Tanzania Tourist Corporation (TTC).

The board is mandated with promotion and development of all the aspects of tourism industry in Tanzania with a vision that aims to make tourism the number one economic contributing sector to the Tanzania GDP by the year 2025.

The board’s mission is attributed to promote sustainable tourism domestically and internationally through innovative and dynamic awareness creation, in order to contribute significantly to the social and economic development of Tanzania.

I think, its high time..wale wanaotaka mabadiliko ya kweli..wakipewa nafasi waanze kwa kuonyesha mfano. Hainingii akilini...mtu umepewa nafasi ya kufanya maamuzi yenye manufaa kama hii..kesho unaharibu..harafu unaanza kutafuta mchawi..and as always tutaanza na JK. I GUESS AT TIMES WE ARE BEING UNFAIR. Tulalamike tuu..pale ambapo mhusika hana sifa au tunajua record yake ni mbovu au "alibebwa". Otherwise naona na sisi tuwe responsible na majukumu tunayopewa.

JK atabadilika kama akiona wale anaowapa nafasi wanajitahidi. Lakini tukiendelea hivi kuwalaumu wanasiasa (ofcourse wana failures zao) tutashindwa kupiga hatua kabisa. If you are educated kama huyu mkulu..nadhani the best you can do to your motherland ni kufanya kazi kwa bidii bila woga..after all una elimu..you can still get a job and work somewhere else..hata kama ni Fiji au Palau..why not?

The man seems to be well educated, hard working and experienced in the industry. These are the kinds of people we need appointed to positions like this. This is the kind of appointment ATCL needs. The only question is if he decides to make some radical changes or expose powerful people who have been using TTB as their ATM machine. Will he get the required support.
