Since his return last Sunday, Dr Ulimboka has not been seen in public, and efforts by the media to seek audience with him have failed. In fact, no one, apart from a few doctors, knows exactly where Dr Ulimboka is at the moment. The secretary of the doctors' steering committee, Dr Edwin Chitage, told The Citizen by phone on Wednesday that fear and lack of assurance on their chairman's security forced them to hide him from the public view. "We have agreed that he should lie low until we establish that the situation is secure for him to come out and speak publicly," he said. Asked who they feared, Dr Chitage said given what happened to Dr Ulimboka, they were not quite sure if "those who kidnapped him earlier are not hunting for him to finish their job." He elaborated: "We are not sure if the person who has been arrested and charged over Dr Ulimboka's abduction and torture took part in the mission... but even if he did so, there were many people in the group and only one has been arrested." Dr Chitage confirmed that they had advised Dr Ulimboka to maintain a low profile as they continued to assess the situation. "We have told him to stay inside and not venture out in public places for the sake of his safety," he stressed. He apologised to the media and journalists who have failed to get Dr Ulimboka for much needed interviews, saying his safety and security were of paramount importance now. "We want to assure ourselves that all people who wanted to harm Dr Ulimboka in the first incident have been captured before we allow him out," he stressed explaining: "It is true that it has been difficult to contact him, but this is for security purposes. We need to be convinced that when he comes out in public, he will be safe. But we cannot tell you how he is protected because the issue of security is usually a secret. "Once we are sure that the enemies are no longer behind his back and those responsible for kidnapping and torturing him are behind bars, it will then be the right time for him to show up and tell his story."
