Tigo has today announced the appointment of Mr. Diego Gutierrez as its new General Manager of Tigo Tanzania. He replaces Mr Marcel Aleman who has been appointed GM of MIC's operation in El Salvador .

Mr. Gutierrez has 12 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having worked in several markets in Africa and Latin America. He joined Millicom International Cellular S.A (MIC) five years ago as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Ghana and later moved to Tanzania, where, for the past two and a half years, he has been working as Consumer/Deputy General Manager.

He takes over the role as Millicom International Cellular SA, owners and operators of the Tigo mobile networks in Latin/Central/South America and Africa have recently reported that its 2012 first-quarter (Q1), in Africa, revenue growth slowed down to 5.4% reaching US$239 million in Q1, with Ghana, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo showing negative growth. Tanzania and Rwanda however have continued to report strong performance, supported by the success of Mobile Financial Services.
