    Diageo's East African subsidiary, East African Breweries Limited, completes
    acquisition of Serengeti Breweries Limited in Tanzania

    East African Breweries Limited (EABL), a subsidiary of Diageo, has completed the
    acquisition of 51 per cent of the issued share capital of Serengeti Breweries
    Limited (SBL) from its existing shareholders for a total consideration of
    approximately US$60.4million.

    SBL is a major brewer and distributor of beverages in Tanzania and produces a
    portfolio of beer and non-alcoholic products, including its flagship Premium
    Serengeti Lager. The combined EABL / SBL portfolio accounts for approximately 28
    per cent of the Tanzanian branded beer sector. SBL will form an integral part
    of EABL's East African supply footprint providing additional capacity to Kenya
    and Uganda.

    why 51% and not 49%? i think there was a need for SBL to negotiate further

    May be tuite uchumi wetu liwalo na liwe with policies formulated by donors advices, wizi wa mafisadi kutofata sheria, tamaa za wawekezaji kupita kiasi mwishowe kutuvurugia kila kitu.

    Sasa hawa jamaa ni majority shareholders katika kampuni zote mbili kubwa ni nani atake walazimisha ku-improve quality. Pili ina maana they can detect their own prices as they own the main two brewers (what sort of capitalism or competition is that).

    Kwa jinsi wa-africa tunavyopenda lager inaonekana kuna faida sana si ajabu mizungu ijipe ajira Tanzania kwenye hizi kampuni za bia na sasa bei wanapanga wao katika soko kubwa la ndani. Tusijali tutafika tu under uongozi wa sasa na tuendelee kupokea kila kitu bila kuuliza athari kama kawaida yetu.

    Halafu kesho bei za bidhaa zinakuwa kubwa sana chini ya JK wakati vitu kama hivi vina achiwa vipate wazi.
