Garlic Helps To Reduce Cholesterol in Rats
According to the research conducted by a team of researchers at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products at Hebrew University //in Jerusalem it was found that eating garlic is beneficial in reducing the cholesterol levels in our body. The report was published in WebMD website. Shela Gorinstein and colleagues experimented on lab animals (rats) by feeding them with garlic and then analysed the cholesterol levels. They feed about 500 milligrams to 1,000 milligrams of garlic per day per kilogram of the rat's body weight. They also fed the rats with a cholesterol-raising diet.

At the end of 4 weeks they found that only the rats that were fed with 500-mg daily dose of garlic were resistant to the cholesterol-raising effects of their diet. It was also found that garlic helped in increasing the time required for blood to clot. This is essential in preventing heart attacks and strokes. But so far no experiments were conducted in humans and hence the researchers feel that the optimal dose for a 150-pound person would be equivalent to 1.25 ounces of daily dose of raw garlic.
