Cost comparison SGR Kenya vs SGR Tanzania

i thnk its premature to compare kenya sgr na tz sgr, bado details nyingi hatuzifaham bado, but with time may be things will be a little clearer, anyway here is a little comparison between kenya sgr and ethiopia.
Railways have classes one two and three.Minimum curve radius - Ethiopia: 2000 m; Kenya 1200 m.

Maximum gradient - Ethiopia: 1.0%, Kenya: 1.2%

Passing loop length for single track sections - Ethiopia: 3 km; Kenya: 1.2 km

Maximum distance between passing loops - Ethiopia: 30 km; Kenya: 30 km
Axle load - Ethiopia: 25 tons; Kenya 25 tons
Rails - Ethiopia: 60 kg/m; Kenya 60 kg/m

Length - Ethiopia: 656 km; Kenya 485 km (not including dual track, loop sections, yard tracks, etc)

Dual Track - Ethiopia: 115 km ; Kenya 0 km

Total budget (including Stations, rolling stock, etc) - Ethiopia: $2.8 billion; Kenya: $3.804 billion

Cost per km - Ethiopia: $4.27 million; Kenya: $7.84 million

My one pence observation, land issues in kenya are a big problem in investment

Tatizo linaijia hapo
Ardhi kuwa ya watufulani

Dhuks n bongo-live evidence that chinese loan financed land compensation!? FYI, no donor pays for land compensation! A reason the high court of Kenya ordered a project to be haltedloans on the grounds some people have not been paid compensation.

Kama ipo hivyo shida ninini hapo
Kwanini gharama imekuwa kubwa!!

I will not feed your ignorance, you can sum it the way you want.

Geza comparison of both railways costs is not a simple matter like comparing which 2 random farmers produces the fattest maize cobs. Its much more complex than what you are trying to imply.

MOTOCHINI, mchina kawagonga!

thats sad if true, anyways a little eye opener that sgr ...earlier this year kenya tea development agency KTDA had a tender out to transport 75000 tonnes of fertilizer. The rate provided was 6.5Kshs/tonne/km (or approximate US 6.5 cents/tonne/km).
info available from/www.ktdateas.com/...NSPORT FOR 2016.pdf
They secured more than 1000 trucks for its transport, first shipment arrived of 38000tonnes and was finished in one and a half weeks. Such is the competition in the industry, and the capacity available in the trucking industry.
Now kenyas SGR is said to reduce the cost of transport from current US 20 cents/tonne/km with trucks. The market is already at 6 US cents/tonne if above practical experience is anything to go by.
FYI: Using current railway, a container costs 120K to move from MSA to nairobi, and 90K by road. I dont see the game changer of SGR in terms of transport.

In Kenya financing caters for everything even land compensation. RAP and PAP are always considerations in any project, be either road or rail unless explicitly stated. I think its important to drop your sycophancy and stop berating anything Kenya. You cannot be lambasting Kenya for taking too many loans with the Chinese on one thread and singing praises for getting bigger funding in another
It's called sour grapes.

Geza Ulole, it has been pointed out in many an design proposal the unique characteristics of traversing the Kenyan landscape from east to west involves the huge physical barrier of the escarpments on both sides of the Kenyan rift valley. As you probably don't know, the costs involved in a project multiply when having to build against a gradient, and in the case of the rift in Kenya, it means a drop of thousand feet in just a few kilometers. Also on the same thought, building against a fault line and the mandatory precautions also multiplies costs. Did you consider this obvious fact in your flawed reasoning??

Quickly rift valley dissect tanzania into four parts btn eastern n western arms n yet the project is cheaper than Kenyan. The same rift valley dissects Ethiopia n yet they pay less! Keep being lied by ur tribalistic politicians.

when u make a lot on noises on a project, it is our responsibility to do comparison or due analysis on such related ventures!
Okay, when you brag that you got more funding than Kenya it leaves me wondering whether these funds are free. You really amaze.

Dhuks, can u provide me with evidence that Chinese loan covers land compensation? It is shocking that u can't make ur brain even reason a bit. Plse ask urself, if the loan covers land compensation; then why all those cases filed in the Kenyan courts against the GoK?

You are immune to reason many a time. The major transportation arteries in Kenya dissect the rift at very steep sections in Kenya, and the profiles are not extreme in TZ as they are in KE. The railway must also link major population centres by necessity and these happen to lie at strategic positions either side of the rift, sisi hatujengi railway to nowhere, but to link cities. And these inescapable facts necessitates a design heavy on excavation.

Kafrican
land compensation is not part of the Chinese loan! Chinese didn't pay for compensation! The naked truth is u were overcharged since u either didn't have a good to negotiate or the negotitors were paid kickbacks!

eliakeem, they know pretty well what happened but they pretend to be not aware! There is no way a Kenyan can claim ati terrain is more rougher in Kenya than Tanzania! Mind u mountain n craters r rift valley formation.

Aside the fact Tanzania host 2nd deepest lake in the World plus highest free standing Mt Kilimanjaro n largest unbroken caldera crater i.e. Ngorongoro. Keep being lied..u have been robbed dry!

If one goes to Lushoto in Tanga at Irente view to Iringa Kitonga Mts, all that below is rift valley formation. Aside Mbeya to Kalambo falls! In Tanzania we have Southern Highlands, do u people know the meaning of that term?
