    Ukisoma maswali ya mitihani inayotungwa hapa nchini, hasa kwa lugha ya Kiingereza katika vyuo vya elimu ya juu na sekondari, utakuta mara nyingi maneno yanayotumika ni kama vile: what is…, outline…, mention…, describe…, state…, assess…, discover…, explain…, discuss…, trace…, define…, highlight…, indicate…, show…, underline…, give…, etc.

    Swali langu: je, walimu wanaotumia maneno hayo, huwa kweli wanazingatia maana halisi ya hayo maneno au matumizi yake? Nionavyo mimi, wengi wa watunga mitihani hawazingatii maana ya hayo maneno bali kile walichotaka mwanafunzi ajibu kwa jinsi wanavyoelewa au kutaka wao wenyewe.

    Ndiyo maana, siyo kitu cha ajabu mwalimu anatumia neno ‘explain' lakini anachotaka yeye ni ‘define' au anatumia neno ‘outline' lakini anachotaka ni jadili (discuss). Kitu ninachojiuliza: je, ni kweli watunga mitihani hawaelewi vizuri maana ya maneno wanayotumia ndiyo maana yanatumika isivyo?

    Nashauri somo la ‘methodology' lizingatiwe ili wanafunzi wafahamishwe baadhi ya msamiati unaotumiwa katika uandishi wa insha au maana ya hayo maneno na jinsi yanavyotumika.
