    Back-ground

    Wildlife Conservation Security of Tanzania (WCST) is a national Tanzania Non-Governmental (NGO), Which is non-profit making and membership based civil society organization. Established since 1988 with the main aim of conserving Tanzania's fauna and their environment, WCST works with the Government and other stakeholders including local and international partners and the general public to realize her objectives.

    The Vision of WCST is that the variety of life forms (biodiversity) continues to be valued and conserved an integral part of our natural heritage for generation to come. Her Mission is
    to conserve Tanzania's wildlife and its environment for the benefit of mankind.

    WCST is now seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Tanzanians to fill the vacant posts shown below:

    1. The Post of Chief Coordinator

    Key Responsibilities and Duties

    Working under the overall supervision of the Executive Committee and answering to the Honorary Secretariat in providing support to the Executive Committee to pursue the Society ‘s Mission, Vision and Specifically the Chief Coordinator shall:

    Supervise other members of the Secretariat under him/her in their day-to-day activities.

    Promote leadership, team work, motivation and harmonicas relations among the WCST's staff, general public, the Executive Committee and members of the Society.

    Manage the implementation of all Society's activities and projects in


    collaboration with other members of the secretariat.

    Take a leading role in fund raising activities including writing fundable project proposals for generating funds to sustain the Society.

    Coordinate and facilitate the activities of Sub-committees of the Executive Committee

    Coordinate the preparation of WCST's projects annual and quarterly action plans and budgets, as well as ensure their timely implementation

    Prepare and submit to the Honorary Secretary quarterly activities and financial progress reports.

    Perform any other duty or responsibility as directed by the Executive Committee.


    Key Qualifications, Experience and Competence

    Must have at least a BSc. Degree in wildlife, natural resources, environmental science, or any other relevant field. A master's degree will be an added advantage.

    Training in human resource management, project management, administration, or any other relevant social science field has added advantage

    Must have at least five years experience working in senior post in a large organization

    Must have worked for at least 5 years in the administration and management of activities related to natural resources and environment

    Must have proven leadership skills

    Must have teams-work and readership skills

    Must have team-work and leadership skills

    Must have experience working on donor funded multi-stakeholder projects involving the Government, donor (s), CSOs and communities

    Knowledge of financial management in NGO's is desirable
    Must have good interpersonal communication skills
    Must be computer literate
    Must be fluent in both spoken and written Kiswahili and English
    Must have proven interest and commitment in conservation and natural resources management.

    Age: The applicant should be a mature person of age 35 and above. Remuneration: An attractive salary package will be offered to the successful candidate

    Duty station: All the Head Office of WCST in Dar Es Salaam.

    Terms of Employment

    The Successful candidate will be employed on a TWO-years contact, which is renewable depending on performance

    Reporting date: The successful candidate is expected to report for duty as soon as possible

    2. Project Manager for REDD Project

    The Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania has received funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for the implementation of the Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) Pilot Project in the Pugu-Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserves (PKFRs).

    The project aims at reducing CO2 emissions through curbing deforestation and forest degradation in the Pugu-Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserves (PKFRs), and the surrounding areas. The project is designed to promote sustainable income generating activities for improving the livelihood conditions of the forest adjacent communities (FAC). The aims of the project will be contributed by strategic partnership with organizations and institutions with the capacity to influence the needed action for effective management of the forest. Given the above situation, WCST now seeks to fill the following vacancies for REDD Project.

    2.1. Project Manager for REDD Project

    The project manager will be responsible for the coordination, supervision and timely delivery of all project activities.
    Specific duties and responsibilities include: As the most senior project personnel, coordinate the implementation of all activities to produce the results articulated in the project document.
    As the team leader, supervise, guide and provide support to all project personnel to ensure effective delivery of project outputs Prepare work plans and budgets for the project and ensure proper utilization of project resources.
    Prepare project activities and financial reports to the Chief Coordinator and other partners.

    Organize Project Advisory Committee meetings, liaise and report on matters relating to project implementation to all stakeholders.

    Represent the Project Manager reports to the Chief Coordinator at WCST H/Q Dsm


    Any other duty or responsibility assigned by WCST in pursuit of effective project implementation

    Academic Qualifications, Professional
    Experience and Skills


    Must have at least a Master degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental science or any other relevant field

    Should have at least 8 years experience in forest related project management with two years at a senior lever position and, at least 3 of those eight years must have involved in community natural resources conservation.
    Must have excellent leadership and supervisory skills

    Must have considerable experience in working with civil society organizations in natural resources management.

    Must be familiar with livelihood issues in natural resources management including those concerning income generation activities (IGAs) savings and credit schemes.
    Must have good interpersonal communication skills
    Experience in working with donor funded projects is desirable
    Must have a good knowledge of working with computer, especially working with excel and power point

    Must have conflict resolution skills.

    2.2. Financial Manager for REDD Project


    He/She will be the Head of the Financial Section of REDD Project

    Specific duties and responsibilities

    Maintain the project's financial and accounting systems and controls Produce accurate and timely financial statements and reports of the project Supervise and execute financial regulations and procedures as provided by WCST

    Effectively and efficiently administer and execute the approved budget

    Maintaining and keeping proper records of project assets and equipment

    Acting as a custodian of all financial documents

    Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Project Manager

    Academic Qualifications, Professional Experience and Skills

    Must possess Advanced Diploma/Degree in finance and accountancy.

    Must possess accounting qualifications such as CPA or its equivalent and must be registered with NBAA (T) for not less than 3 years


    Must be computer literate

    Must have at least five years experience working in senior post in a large organization

    Experience working with donor funded project is desirable

    Must be conversant with different accounting packages e.g. QuickBooks, pastel, etc

    2.3. Coordinator and Logistical Officer for REDD Project

    The function and roles incorporated into this position apart from the duties below will
    include those of close assistance to the Project Manager in the day to day activities


    Specific duties and responsibilities


    Activate and strengthen Pugu-Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserves management institutions local authorities and communities adjacent to the PKFR Up-dating of the PKFR management plan Monitoring of the signing of MoUs between FBD and communities

    Facilitate development of cost-benefit sharing arrangements for PFM and REDD Facilitate joint Forest Management Agreement (JFM) between 8 villages surrounding PKFR and the Director of Forest and Beekeeping

    Coordinate project partners
    And any other duty or responsibility as assigned by the Project Manager

    2.4. Administrative Officer for REDD Project


    The position among other responsibilities will be to coordinate the use, maintenance and repair of all project equipment, including replenishing stocks to ensure facilities are running at optimum level
    Specific duties and responsibilities
    To deal with day-to-day administrative and staff matters
    Handles incoming official mail both open and confidential
    Maintains register and drafts routine letters
    Maintaining proper up-keeping of office Communicate with stakeholders on the smooth implementation of project activities
    Provide logistical support to project sponsored workshop, seminars, conferences, etc
    Arrange appointments, maintain events, calendars, as well as provide administrative support to project functions as required
    Facilitate strategic field visits of decision makers and media
    To formulate procedures for the project administrative services
    To develop, prepare and maintain all documentation of the administrative issues related to the project.
    To safeguard the assets of the project and advise the management on legal aspects

    Academic qualifications, professional experience and skills

    Advanced Diploma/Degree in Human Resource Management or its equivalent. Five years minimum working experience and an insight on secretarial, administrative,

    3. Project Coordinator-Education for Sustainable Development-ESD


    WCST is working in partnership with the Danish Outdoor council (DOC) to pilot a project on Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Tanzania Primary Schools. The project will adapt the Eco-School approach, using the existing Wildlife clubs in schools as entry points for project implementation. Project implementation at school level will enrich livelihood development at the surrounding communities


    Academic Qualifications, professional Experience and Skills

    A holder of a BSc/BA University Degree on Environmental Education, Science Education, Agricultural Education, Geography-economics Education and any other relevant field would be preferred. The candidate should have demonstrable experience in project
    management in the field of Environmental Education, Eco-schools, and Community Education programmer and extension services


    The specific duties and responsibilities:

    Overall responsible for administration, planning and smooth implementation of the project within the earmarked area. Develop strategies to promote activities among stakeholders through the involvement of close stakeholders in project management

    Work in close collaboration with the WCST Education Officer at Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania (WCST). Build effective working relationships with local communities around selected villages to ensure goods coordination of project activities.

    Over all coordinator of project personnel, equipment, logistics and other resources and requirements for the successful implementation of the project plan while ensuring best value for money Maintain and keep up to data records of project equipments and assets

    Undertake the monitoring and review of project implementation pans, budgets and other necessary adjustments. Prepare technical reports, progress reports, work-plans, budgets and any other documents required by PATC, WCST/DOC, Relevant Governmental Institutions, and local stakeholders on the project.

    Represent the WCST project schools when asked by WCST Coordinator, in official meetings, workshops, seminars etc

    Undertake advocacy work with the objective of raising awareness on conservation activities done by the project schools and ensure linkages with local educational authorities

    Liaise regularly with WCST office and ensure proper disbursement and timely Accounting of project funds support by WCST/DOC.

    Academic Qualifications, professional experience and skills:


    A holder of a BSc/BA University Degree on Environmental Education, Science Education, Agricultural Education Geography-economics Education and any other relevant field would be preferred. The candidate should have demonstrable experience in project management of Field of Environmental Education Eco-schools, and Community Education programmer and extension service.

    3.2. Micro-Credit Officer for the ESD


    Project Specific duties include:-

    In charge of the Micro-credit component of the project to school communities and surrounding villages
    Empower school communities and adjacent villages through external service including:- training, sourcing of financial resources and investment into environmental friendly projects
    Build capacity of teachers, non-teaching staff, pupils and communities to use the
    Micro credit activities as teaching aids, demonstration sites and learning ground for pupils and communities. Mobilization of local capacity and resources for performing the project activities while promoting cooperation between project schools and communities

    Promote the demonstration of wild (indigenous) plants and animals for commercial uses through establishment of seedling nurseries, eco-tourism, forest walks and excursions etc.

    Sensitize Government authorities at village, ward and district levels for alternative income generation activities (IGA) that are environmental friendly Develop local community capacities, organized user groups and CBOs in marketing of rural produced products Promote the establishment of school/Community groups which serve as user groups for valuable ecological resources and services on a sustainable ways. Establish demonstration projects

    Undertake the monitoring and review of Micro-credit implementation plans, budgets and other necessary adjustments
    Academic Qualifications, professional experience and skills:

    A holder of degree or Advanced Diploma in environmental planning, environmental economics, economics education, agri-business, cooperatives and other related fields. Experience on micro-credit schemes and entrepreneurship is an added advantage.


    4. Watershed Officer

    The Wildlife Conservation Society of Tanzania (WCST) working in partnership with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has received funding from the Department for international Development Civil Society Challenge Fund to support a project in the Uluguru Mountains. The purpose of the project is to enable communities to benefit from the sustainable management of the Uluguru Nature Reserve so that the long-term protection of the forest and water supply to Morogoro is secured, through the development of payment for ecosystem services schemes. The project will last for four and a half year (July 2010-December 2015) and will bring together a wide range of stakeholders from Government, civil society, universities and the private sector.
    In view of the above, WCST is seeking a well qualified Tanzanian, self motivated and vibrant individual to fill the position of Watershed Officer to be based in the project area Morogoro Municipality. The Watershed officer shall report to the Project Manager.


    Main duties

    Mobilize riparian communities in Uluguru Mountains to work closely with the project through awareness raising, environmental education and extension services.

    Facilitate village participatory land use planning and ensure adherence to land use plan.

    Training of farmers on environmental friendly agricultural practices and farming technologies

    Advocacy on Catchment protection. Facilitate village environmental committees in enforcement of agreed by-laws.

    Mobilize farmers to participate in the Payment for Watershed Services scheme.

    Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the Project Manager.

    Qualification and Experience

    BSc in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, Natural Resource Management, Land Management or any other related field At least 3 years experience in Agricultural Extension services, community development related
    activities. Experience in Uluguru Mountains will be an added advantage Good knowledge of computer

    Good writing skills
    Good knowledge of Kiswahili and English
