CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Mpanda District, Katavi Region, has suspended indefinitely five of its members from the party for allegedly campaigning for an opposition aspirant.
The suspended members include Abraham Kombe and Francis Nandi who were eyeing the parliamentary and councillorship seats for Mpanda Urban and Ilembo, respectively, but got defeated in the party's primaries.
Others are Magret Maembe and Raphael Kaswiza. Mr Kaswiza is one of the most respected elders in the area. The fifth expelled member is Vicent Nkana.
Kaswiza, a retired chairperson for Mpanda District Council and former member of Mpanda District Political Committee, is accused of campaigning for Chadema parliamentary candidate Said Arfi, during a campaign rally.
The CCM members were notified about their suspension through letters signed by the party's Mpanda District Secretary, Mr Jacob Mkomola. The suspension takes effect immediately. Their fate would be determined by higher party authorities.
