Presently the concept of Carbon footprinting is an international issue. A carbon footprint is the total set of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event or product. Or simply put: the amount of carbon dioxide emitted individually. This is consequent upon the amount of trees being fell, the bushes being burnt, the excess burning of fossil fuel, increase in human population that will ultimately increase the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) volume being emitted and very few trees to absorb. This cause and its many effect is an experience that is is not domiciled to a particular region of the world. Once either a Kenyan or a Nigerian is involved, every man on Earth is involved. Of course, we are not surprised by the many so called natural disasters. A great reason we all must be out to fight the malaise of global warming.

Carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, and the emissions of other GHGs, are often associated with the burning of fossil fuels, like natural gas, crude oil and coal. For instance:

If your car consumes 7.5 liter diesel per 100 km, then a drive of 300 km distance consumes 3 x 7.5 = 22.5 liter diesel, which adds 22.5 x 2.7 kg = 60.75 kg CO2 to your personal carbon footprint.

Carbon footprint can be primary or secondary. Primary, when you emit directly through breathing or the use of your car. Secondary, in the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use - those associated with their manufacture and eventual breakdown.

The carbon footprint is a very powerful tool to understand the impact of personal behaviour on global warming. I know you will be shocked when you see the amount of CO2 your activities create! As much as this knowledge is not widely circulated in Africa, this enlightened community has a lot of job to do:

  • decide to be a herald for us and our future
  • raise campaigns against indiscriminate burning or anything
  • teach young people of the negative impact of wasting energy
  • discourage smoking
  • research in to technology that efficiently use energy
  • encourage good vehicle exhaust pipes

In the words of Michael -
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Yes, its a global concern lakini in Tz watu wanakufa kwa kukosa vitu basic kabisa kama hospitali, maji safi au barabara..ukianza kumuelezea a common mbongo mambo ya carbon footprint sijui nini atakuona unampeperushia stimu tuuuuuu
