CALL FOR SUPPORT: To Build or not To Build - The Serengeti Highway saga

Kwa wote mnaounga kujengwa kwa Serengeti Highway, naomba kuwauliza maswali machachace yafuatayo:

1. Mmeshafika Western Serengeti?
2. Mmeshaona kwa macho yenu The Great Migration?
3. Mnaelewa hawa wanyama wanatoka wapi kwenda wapi?
5. Mtafurahia wanyama wakiwa trapped on the Kenyan side na kuuwa utalii wa Serengeti?
(I could be wrong but I am afraid it will have the same impact on ecosystem)
9. Mmeshafanya scenario planning ya prediction of what will happen 50 years from now Kama hii barabara itajengwa?
10. Last but not least, wazawa wa Loliondo ni wamasai, je wanamazao gani ya kusafirisha zaidi ya kuchunga ng'ombe zao?

Wewe ni mwana Green peace-Civilisation zote zili nourish kwenye mito, barabara etc. In the short term your points will stand. In the long run Infrastructure is the only option foward. Raw products zetu are unmarketable due to overhead costs zinazoletwa na poor infrastructure.

In years to come environmental changes zitasababisha utalii uwe history, what next kama hakuna plan B. Kwa nini unauliza mmasai ana mazao gani? Na why not think kwamba in 50 years time maeneo ya mmasai yatakuwa yana produce finished products gani?

To keep up with the game we have to gamble, otherwise kutakuwa hatukuwafanyia haki future generations.

Good points but the way anti-Serengeti highway have been conducting their campaigns makes you wonder what are the main motives behind these sinister campaigns.

Unfortunately, most of those ant-Serengeti highway campaigners know the value of Serengeti. Go to any Serengeti lodge between July and September, utadhani hauko Tanzania. You could be the only local guest.

The rest are CEOs of multinational corporations or loyalties, etc, with their families. Some will tell you they visited Serengeti as a child and back to share the experience with their children. Even Anil and Mukesh Ambani had been to Serengeti as children with their father.

He was back again with his children and begged the govt to reconsider destroying such a creation. And for our economy, utalii unacangia kwa kiasi kikubwa GDP yetu. TANAPA is one of the best and successful authorities that we have.

Gharama za kwenda Serengeti kwa wazawa is very cheap and affordable but we don't have the tradition of appreciating such God wonders. we are even clueless as to how fortunate we are to have Serengeti in our country.

I urge you and many people to experience Serengeti thrills, especially if you have kids, then tafakari if you would really like to see it gone.

serengeti has been a country bordered by Tanzania.... its like vatican

Tanzanians gain nothing out there

Couple of things...

I'm not anti environment in any way shape or form. After all Some 80 per cent of CO2 emissions from the transport sector come from road
transport. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions from cars and lorries is essential.

Although CO2 emissions from new cars imported to Tanzania and other vehicles have gone down over the last few decades, overall levels of emissions from road transport have stayed fairly constant as people use their cars more and choose larger, more powerful, vehicles.

The question is if these eco-activists were interested about our likelihoods and environment, how come we've not heard their uproar about the levels of emissions we have in big cities such as Dar es Salaam?

One doesn't need to be a nuclear scientist to acknowledge that good transport is essential for a successful economy and society. It provides access to jobs, services and schools, gets goods to the shops and allows us to make the most of our free time. Yet our transport system has suffered from 5 decades of under-investment.

Now we are about to Celebrate our 50th anniversary as an independent country we've been caught up in the negative aspects of Serengeti Highway and forget that much of our nation's relative prosperity is utterly dependent on our roadway infrastructure.

The saddest thing about the proposed Serengeti highway discussion not only in this forum but also in the print media sums up the small-mindedness of our times, when parochial Nimbyism is triumphing over ideas of universal provision, when giving people too much freedom is seen as a problem and the advice is to stay safe at home.

To see how low expectations have sunk, look at the "debate" about how to improve our highway. CCM leadership has been been infiltrated by a band of eco imperialists whose minds seems to operate from the headquarters of Greenpeace and WWF in London, New York and Los Angeles . The main opposition party CHADEMA came up with the most bonkers scheme, all ; "DOING NOTHING".

I think we should take a balanced approach. Where it makes economic sense, andis realistic environmentally. But we also recognise that we cannot simply build our way out of the problems we face. It would be environmentally irresponsible – and would not work. So we must make our existing transport networks work more efficiently and in a moreenvironmentally friendly way, but without blackmail from eco imperialists.

Simple gestures such as tax relief for the least polluting vehicles, new traffic control centres, better information for motorists, and bringing in serious investors in our railways . We must also prepare now for the long term. Over the next 50 years, the demand for travel will continue to grow so its inevitable we plan our roads and railways systems properly.

There is no quick fix to our transport challenges. The long-term solution lies in the sustained programme of investment and innovation and JK's administration should be more serious about it and the courage to continue to take difficult decisions such as the proposed Serengeti Highway

Please next time come up with something solid , the Serengeti highway is questionable for many reasons. If we can't maintain what we have now what is the reason to build new ones? As a matter of facts Serengeti is accessible, why not improving Mara - Serengeti?

The cost - benefit analysis should be put into consideration the government don't have the money to finance the project why borrowing billions to build road which does not have any economic advantages?

The government should emphasize on improving our rails system, the cost of rail sytem is cheap and easy to maintain, the world is going back to rail system why not us?

If we use our own money to finance the project may be I could have support that idea but we are poor and broke so why adding gas on fire? Are we solving or adding more problems to our economy?

Serengeti needs better education and health care LEAVE THE BEAUTY OF SERENGETI. Desparate measures will not solve our infrastructures problems we need to look deep and use common sense.

Okay let them accept the alternative labda na kwetu kutapita lami!! Ila nina mashaka na hao WB na Ujerumani wasije kutulimbikizia deni kubwa tukashindwa kulililipa.
