Upanuzi barabara Mbezi - Goba waanza visa- Source: Tanzania Daima

Residents of Mbezi Juu on Goba road, starting from Samaki area in Dar es Salaam, have called on government leaders to abide by laws while implementing its various development plans to avoid antagonism between the people and the leaders.
The call was made on Sunday at a public meeting that brought together the residents from the area who met to discuss pending house demolitions under a plan aimed at widening the road that connects Samaki area and Bagamoyo road up to Mbezi Mwisho on Morogoro road.
Chairperson of the meeting Dr Winfred Milinga, said the residents have been living in fear, not knowing exactly what was going on, saying the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) simply sent a notice to the local government office about the pending demolitions without first having consulted the residents, who are the victims of the exercise.
The letter, which was signed by Tanroads regional manager Nyabakari read that the government planned to rehabilitate the Goba road extending from Mbezi Mwisho to Samaki Wabichi area, adding that currently the aim was to establish a road reserve, which is 22.5 meters from the middle of the existing road.
"The aim is to establish a road reserve area and warn the people not to erect buildings within the reserve area," the letter read in part.
He said the letter was followed by forceful installation of beacons demarcating the road reserve.
Milinga said he communicated with the Tanroads manager who agreed to come and explain to the people about what was going on, and that they had agreed that he would meet with the people last Saturday at 10am. However, even though the people had gathered there, the manager did not bother to attend.
Retired Ambassador Fanuel Kuzilwa, who is also a resident of the area, said such government action which cause people to live in fear may end up causing antagonism between the people and government leaders, something which may pause a threat to peace and tranquility in the country.
Another resident, retired ambassador Herman Martin Mkwizu, advised the government not to go ahead with the demolitions, especially since the road was not meant to be a highway.
