DUBAI // A sales assistant broke the skull of a security guard with a wooden stick, a court heard today.
The Filipino AA, 28, denied charges of assault and consuming alcohol illegally when he appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance, saying he had merely been defending himself.
He is accused of leaving HN, a 29-year-old Kenyan, permanently injured with what a forensics report described as a 10 per cent disability. The report said HN lost a part of his skull in the attack, leaving his brain unprotected and susceptible to injury.
The two men were said to have been fighting after a disagreement at Al Muhaisanah Area 2 on June 14 last year. It was not clear what the disagreement was about.
AA presented the court with a waiver from the victim.
A verdict will be issued on March 27.
