Since last month, the China Machinery & Equipment Company (CMEC) has been carrying out a study on a project for a 300 MW power plant that would be supplied by gas from the Mnazi Bay field operated by France's Maurel & Prom that boasts 3 TCF of reserves. CMEC has teamed up on the project with the Tanzania Electricity Supply Co (Tanesco). Up to now Mnazi Bay has supplied only a small, 16 MW power station, which means the bulk of its reserves remain untapped. CMEC's project would call for the supply of 27 billion cu.ft per year. The plant would be situated in the port of Mtwara. BG and Ophir also want to build a liquefaction plant in that port
