Arab capitals are braced for further violent clashes after the killing of three demonstrators in the Gulf state of Bahrain and violence in Libya threatened an escalation of regional unrest in the wake of the popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.
Up to 15 people were also reported killed by security forces on a "day of rage" in Libya, amid continuing trouble in Yemen.
Fresh protests are expected on Friday in Bahrain's capital Manama, Cairo – in celebration of Hosni Mubarak's departure a week ago – in Sana'a, Yemen and perhaps elsewhere after Friday prayers.
