Minister Ali Juma Shamhuna

Mainland and Zanzibar ministers for information, culture and sports, Ali Juma Shamhuna and George Mkuchika are expected to meet with TFF and ZFA agendas to dominate the session.

The exact date of the meeting has not been unveiled but Shamhuna confirmed of the meeting to iron out differences between the two soccer authorities.

Possibly the ministers would meet at the end of the ongoing parliamentary budget sessions in Dodoma and Zanzibar.

Shamhuna declared his intention to meet Mkuchika when he met visiting All Stars Sports Foundation officials in Zanzibar over the weekend.

The foundation played a friendly soccer match against Zanzibar old stars side that won by 4-1 goals.
Shamhuna said his intention is to have all soccer authorities work in close cooperation to implement sports policies and development.

ZFA has been grumbling over poor cooperation from TFF despite clarification by Leodegar Tenga, the TFF president.

Shamhuna said there is a strong need for the two soccer authorities to share a negotiating table for the sake of soccer development. TFF which is a member of FIFA has been under criticism by ZFA for attending FIFA congresses, which is their right as members.

ZFA officials have also been crying to attend the congresses despite of being aware that they are out of the FIFA bracket as non-members.

“The outstanding tug of war between the two soccer bodies would only be mediated through joint sessions and not by public criticisms”, said Shamhuna.

Shamhuna continued to say that the Union and Zanzibar governments are keen in sports development with vivid examples of importing soccer coaches for the respective national teams.

While Zanzibar has hired an Egyptian coach, the Union government has imported Brazilian coaching duo for the youth and national teams.

Recently four coaches for athletics, boxing and judo from Cuba have signed two-year contracts.

ZFA president Ali Ferej Tamim has been highly vocal on the FIFA annual $250,000 grant, despite TFF’s initiative of serving Zanzibar with the FIFA goal project benefits.

TFF secretary general Fredrick Mwakalebela had advised ZFA to move at par with new leadership pattern as advocated by FIFA.

TFF has been ready to assist Zanzibar to secure FIFA membership but the world governing body has always been reluctant, while recognising TFF as the sole soccer authority in Tanzania.
