Mutai finished fifth in defense of his London title in April thereby missing out on automatic selection
World silver medalist Emmanuel Mutai has been drafted in the Men's marathon team for this year's London Olympics replacing Chicago marathon champion Moses Mosop who is nursing an injury.
Athletics Kenya once again sidelined reigning World record holder Patrick Makau and Boston marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai when they made the changes as the Kenyan Marathon team intensifies its training ahead of the London Olympics.
Emmanuel Mutai the 2011 London marathon champion was in the provisional team of six but failed to make the cut in April when AK settled on London marathon champion Wilson Kipsang, Chicago marathon champion Moses Mosop and two time World champion Abel Kirui.
Edna Kiplagat, Mary Keitany and Priscah Jeptoo are the Kenyan flag bearers in the ladies category.
At the same time Paris marathon champion Stanley Biwott and Florence Kiplagat have been named as reserve athletes in the Men's and ladies categories respectively.
Meanwhile, all is set for the three day national athletics championship slated to kick off this Thursday at the Moi international Sports center Kasarani.
Athletics Kenya chairman Isaiah Kiplagat said the event will be used to select the Women's 10,000m team to the London Olympics.
Kiplagat noted that this will give athletes who want to double up in the 5000m ample time ahead of the national trials to be held on the 23rd of this Month.
The national championships will be used to select a team to the Africa Senior athletics championship scheduled for July in Benin.
