NAIROBI, Kenya: Four people have been killed after a police helicopter crashed at Kibiku forest within Ngong.Witnesses at the scene said the chopper caught fire on impact.

Unconfirmed reports said top government officials may have been on board the police chopper.

The police helicopters are usually used by government officials.

Kenya's Internal Security ministerProf George Saitoti, his deputy Orwa Ojode and five others are feared dead when a Police chopper crashed in Kibiku area in Ngong forest at 9am on Sunday, according to police sources.

The two were heading to Orwa Ojode's Ndhiwa Constituency for a fundraising.

Other passengers on board were the ministers' bodyguards and two pilots

It's exactly four years when a chopper carrying MPs Kipkalya Kones and Lorna Laboso crashed in Narok.

According to an eye witness, the helicopter was seen diving from the sky and full of smoke before crushing and exploding into flames.

"The Chopper was filled with smoke before it crashed. I heard two explosions as it went up in flames," said Rose Kwamboka.

Tanzania’s Home Affairs minister Emmanuel Nchimbi read a message on behalf of President Jakaya Kikwete who said the passing of Prof Saitoti was a loss to integration efforts in the East African Community.

It is so sad, it is such a loss. Naona hapo walio beba sanduku were not only his colleagues but potentially his opponents as presidential candidates (or wagombea wa uchaguzi ulio pita). Uhuru Kenyata, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Kiraitu Murungi, William Ruto, Raila Odinga... Lile bango la juu limesema vema: time to put their country first [and forget the differences]. RIP...

sidhani ni gas turbine more likely reciprocating two or four stroke engine. Are gas turbine engines more reliable than reciprocating type? (Lesser moving parts)

then we have a problem. A very bad tenant has moved in.lol...FJM a tenant has the right and freedom to manouvre within his/her confines.

PS. As regards Saitoti and Co's death, all speculation is valid more-so when people like Moi saying he was supporting Saitoti in his bid for the Presidency. If Uhuru is to dance at The Hague, then I believe Saitoti becomes a big force to reckon with....In terms of experience and deep pockets. The other guy being Raila. I cant put anything past the presently constituted Police force and Kenyan Intelligentsia at large.

To say the truth, it is not that easy contesting for the Kenyan presidency. It is not an application of purely and simplistic mathematics like the opinion poll makers would like to showcase. It will be interesting to see the card up ODM's sleeve this time..... And FYI, if RAO allows for Ruto and Uhuru to stand for contest, that would be the biggest political mistake........It is better for him to stand his ground since the ICC has come to his rescue. Plus........do not forget ODM's quick disintegration and high profile-defections are making the pertinence of scouting new allies with a new-mission-statement, strong enough to counter defections of current political foes to other parties a critical prerequisite. ODM, Fighting alone against several party alliances in principle looks mission-possible.

The 'untimely death' of prof Saitoti is the reminiscence.
Mwangi Josiah Kairuki (MP) and deputy minister was assassinated in 1975.
Kariuki had strained relation with Mzee Kenyatta on various matters of national interest.
He disappeared when accompanied by state intelligence officers. His body was found at Ngong Hill.

Tom Mboya, the then potential contender for presidency was gunned down in 1969.The motive behind his death is still the subject for discussion.

Then in 1990, the charismatic and future prez Dr R.Ouko disappeared amidst tension with his boss Arap Moi!
Saitoti's had an ambition to vie for top office in Kenya, I wonder if Professor did not pay the price!
