      Unhappy Kenya- Uasi Bado Waendelea...

Naona majirani zetu mambo bambo kutulia.

      Waasi waibuka Kenya

Andrew Msechu na Mashirika ya Habari
      Posted Date::3/13/2008

      61 Kenyan militia members held
      13/03/2008 09:57 - (SA)

Eldoret - Security forces have arrested 61 suspected members of a tribal militia in western Kenya just days after the army launched a massive crackdown on the group, said a local official on Wednesday.

"We have arrested 61 people who were trying to escape to other districts neighbouring Mont Elgon because they were acting in suspicious manners," said Western Provincial Commissioner Abdul Mwasera.

On Sunday, Kenya's army launched a major crackdown on the rag-tag Sabaot Land Defence Force (SDLF) militia, accused by police of killing at least 500 people in the past year alone and displacing thousands of others.

Last week, the SDLF attacked a village in the area and killed 15 people, hacking, shooting and burning them to death.

      100 people arrested

The government had imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew for the Mount Elgon region, located some 300km northwest of Nairobi.

Although Mwasera said he was unaware of any victims in the crackdown, local residents said one person was killed at a school on Tuesday evening, where security forces arrested roughly 100 people.

The forces also prevented a number of Kenyan journalists from covering their operations on the ground, confiscating some of their work material.

The SLDF was demanding the annulment of a government settlement scheme, which it deemed unfair because it displaced the small Sabaot tribes from their ancestral land.

The group intensified attacks in 2006 and killed several villagers and destroyed homes in the fertile Mount Elgon region near the border with Uganda.

The violence in the flashpoint area was not directly linked to the turmoil that erupted after Kenya's disputed December elections, but tribal and land disputes had been exacerbated in recent weeks.

      Default Kitimtim bado kipo kenya!!!!

Religious groups and human rights activists Tuesday piled pressure on President Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga to name a clean and lean Cabinet immediately.
In Nairobi, over 100 placard-carrying lobbyists were tear-gassed and dispersed by police as they tried to gather to press for a Cabinet of 24 or less members...MORE SCENES!!!

panakoseka tu maana kila mtu anaangalia maslahi yake not
thiinking that this is about public service...kwani what is
the problem with Kibaki not giving out these seats?...hao wapambe wake need to realise that the cake is smaller now

A night of terror as Mungiki raid homes
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Published on April 15, 2008, 12:00 am

By Amos Kareithi, Evelyne Ogutu and Mutinda Mwanzia

Hundreds of Mungiki members staged night raids in Gatundu and Thika districts, leaving a trail of bloodshed and destruction.
The men, wielding G3 rifles and teargas canisters, attacked with military precision, killing three people.
Residents told of a night of terror as Mungiki gangs engaged police in running battles.
Ms Damaris Waithera, a resident, said: "I was woken up by bursts of gunfire. Then I heard people running near my house. I was too terrified to venture out … then the groans."
What scared her most was when she heard an enraged gangster say: "Nimwamugutha ngui ici. Nainyui ni mugwitikia turi arume (You have hit him. You will know that we, too, are men). The woman said the man who had allegedly been stabbed fell near her doorstep, groaned for some time and then died.

Two other men were killed a few metres away, where dried blood was visible despite the heavy downpour.
Near where the two men had fallen, two poles lay across the road, a crude barricade near a heap of smouldering tyres throughout the morning.
"I was woken by cat calls and whistles. The first burst of gunfire was at 3.45am, followed by ceaseless shooting," said a witness at Nyamarigu village.
The man, too scared to give his name, said when he went out of his house, he was ordered to go back.
"We do not want you to die... These things do not concern you," the resident was told.
Other witnesses recalled that a milk vendor fled after he was confronted by the youths at the roadblock. He abandoned his vehicle and took cover in a nearby farm.
Hours later, the vehicle was found in a church compound with everything intact.
The Gatundu DC, Mr Dan Mesis, said: "We did not know that such attacks were in store."
He added: "We do not know whether they are Mungiki, but we are investigating."
He explained that the group was organised and struck simultaneously at dawn.
The DC said bodies of the victims were taken to the City Mortuary because the local one was small.
Villagers said some people were warned on Sunday night.
In Thika, the situation was different as the attacks had been anticipated and were thwarted at Kiandutu and Kiang’ombe slums.
Thika DC, Mr John Litunda, said: "They burnt two matatus at the Thika bus park. There was commotion in town and businesses closed."
Meanwhile, travellers were stranded for hours when Mungiki barricaded the busy Kangundo-Nairobi road.
They lit bonfires and erected barriers on the road as early as 5.30am near Ruai and Njiru trading centres.
Commuters were huddled in groups discussing the events of the morning.
Matatus plying the Kangundo route suspended their trips to Nairobi for nearly five hours before officers intervened.
The officers helped put out the fires and removed boulders from the road.
By 9am, matatus had begun business on the route via Jogoo Road to the city. They were, however, very cautious.
Commuters from Komarock, Kayole, Saika and Umoja I estates were hard hit by the mayhem.
Some matatus took advantage of the situation and increased fare.
