Anti-Obama Tax Payers Tea Parties.
jmushi1 jmushi1 is offline 15th April 2009, 04:35 PM

The question remains....

What, exactly, are the protesters protesting? The marginal tax rate rising 3% for millionaires? Down here is Marc Coopers article

The Web is buzzing with information about how to throw an anti-Obama Taxpayer Tea Party, something organizers hope will be held today from Santa Monica to South Carolina. But no need to burn up your bandwidth reading complicated instructions. Here's a simpler recipe:

Go to a hobby store. Buy a scale model of a U.N. One-World-Government Black Helicopter and a tube of glue. Toss the model kit. Sniff the entire tube of glue. You're all set for the party.

I can recall only a few outbreaks of such collective insanity as these tea parties in recent years. There was that time in the mid-1990s when a $19.95 video proving Bill Clinton was some sort of serial killer went viral. And then, a few years back, there was that chilling, televised midnight seance from the floor of the U.S. Congress aimed at reviving the long-brain-dead Terri Schiavo.

And now this. Whip out your Lipton and don your tinfoil hat and join the protest against ... against ... against what exactly?
The original Boston Tea Party was caffeinated by a very simple injustice: American Colonists refused to be taxed by a government that lacked any popular representation. That was remedied a few years later in a heroic struggle that stretched from Concord to Yorktown.

So, if you'll excuse the mixed metaphor, what's the beef behind today's protests? The Obama administration is cutting taxes for all except the very richest of Americans. Reduced withholding is already showing up in millions of paychecks.

Then again, this rash of tea parties is being organized not only by the pseudo-journalists at Fox News (with Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity actively stoking the flames) but also by FreedomWorks, a conservative lobbying outfit headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey. I suppose it was Armey's constitutional if morally dubious privilege to have built an entire political career out of defending the wealthy.

But are common folks actually going to dump Earl Grey into Santa Monica Bay because they are outraged, simply infuriated, by the marginal tax rate rising 3% for millionaires?

Or maybe they'll do it for some other reason. The FreedomWorks site says the Tea Party movement began in reaction to President Obama's corporate bailouts and ensuing yawning budget deficits. These same conservatives, however, were mum when George W. Bush erased our budget surplus and put us deep in the red by drunken spending on a pointless war in Iraq and by, yes, granting massive tax rollbacks for the loaded country clubbers who fund the GOP (and Armey's FreedomWorks). Another bothersome detail: The bailouts were also initiated by Bush.

Nobody I know is very pleased with the billions ladled out to teetering banks and corporations. Yet a clear majority of Americans are sophisticated enough to know that these bailouts are a necessary evil and are intended -- unlike the lollipop Bush tax cuts -- not for personal profit but rather as a radical, emergency measure to help Americans keep their jobs, their homes and their retirement.

And while way too many otherwise sane Republicans are actively pandering to the tea-bag battalions, some old-fashioned conservatives are calling out the Teabaggers for their silliness. Writing in Fortune magazine, conservative policy analyst Bruce Bartlett, who has a long anti-tax history, says: "The irony of these protests is that federal revenues as a share of the gross domestic product will be lower this year than any year since 1950. ... The truth is that the U.S. is a relatively low-tax country no matter how you slice the data."

The Tea Party movement, more than anything else, is a rather garish display of a Republican right that seems to have lost not only the national elections but also any semblance of political bearings. Staying on this course, the GOP risks -- in the words of one pundit -- becoming "the Talk Radio Republican Party."

Better put that kettle on, Marge. It's going to be a long and bizarre four years.

This is a cheap attack by the author of this article. Many sensible, reasonable people exercising their democracy will be attending these tea parties. Can you imagine the outcry if someone made such a generalization about any liberal protest or minority protest?

This is nonsense. Tax on the rich is tax on everyone. Any high tax you put on a large corporation or business or even rich individual eventually gets passed down to consumers or the average citizen. It's basic economics. The 95% of people will be paying higher prices in gas, goods, etc as a result. There is no escaping this. Also it is not all about taxes, you have all the debt being accumulated by the B. Hussein's massive spending. Worthless money being printed and that will raise inflation.

Not if you count all the nationalized banks, and auto companies. The huge chunk of GDP will take into account their revenues. Another nonsensical claim from this article.

The tea parties are democratic grass root movement at work. If you come from a totalitarian country such as Tanzania such movements may seem strange but you can learn a thing or two from these tea parties protesters. They are exercising democracy. Something not tolerated or allowed in many countries around the world.

This is a non-partisan grassroots movement against government spending called Taxed Enough Already, or TEA. Katika hali hii ya sasa nani anataka kuongezewa tax?

Ina maana 2% ya watu watakaoongezewa tax ndiyo wanaandamana au wanawamanipulate watu kumpinga first black president?. Obama said clearly that more than 95% will see tax cut so why Protesting?

Hizi TEA parties zina hiden agenda, racism, these morons are not happy to see black people living in WH, riding Air force one etc and nothing else. The present tax rates are those paid for the past, last 8 years, if the issue is spending why didn't they protested for the spending of $900b used to kill iraqis during Bush Admin?

DHS has issued a report of concern about these right wing extremist to recruit vets (Remeber Timoth McVeigh?) and use of violence (domestic terrorism) just because of the election of Obama (First black president). There is no justification what so ever for these racist Republicans right wing extremists who listen to Rush and Fix news.

Believe me this is the real picture behind these gatherings, tax is just a slogan but all of them are racists.

Fella, slow down...Sounds like you've got this stuff wrong or may be you just don't get it...What G.W did was even worst in terms of spending, just like how Hoffstede explained to you guys in aprevious post, in unjustified wars for oil.."Blood for oil" in regard to massive spending in killing innocent people in quite unnecessary conflict such as Iraqi, whats scares me the most is that the right wing nuts don't acknowledge that the man is trying to do whats right for the country..Besides what "tea-bagging" really means these right-wingnuts are simply anti-Obama for whatever their reasons.

They simply do not like the man and prefer to hate him. I don"t think anyone earning over $250k was at no tea-bag-party: financing yes but participating, no. You should have listened to the president, people making less than $250k are not going to see any tax increase, those people is well over 90% of the citizens.

Conservatives need to get a message instead of associating and identifying with extremist right-wingers.

Tea-bagging is not a good ideal and it"s a fake grassroots effort for the GOP. Hate is not an ingredient for the road to power. At least, not in these United States.

Have you seen FOX news, did you watch it last night? Sean Hannity, Glen Beck et al? I think they should be held accountable because they"re not even entertaining anymore. Adults acting this way are a danger to the youth. Just seeing those children at these rallies, tea-parties or whatever you like to call it, carrying protest signs already ashamed of their country is really a step too far.

The anti-Obama agenda is not working and embarrassing the country. Of course the country needs Republican but not just any old Republican will do,
Can you believe that the word "secede" has been mentioned twice in less than 12 months? First Alaska and now Texas. Just pure madness....And do you really know the meaning of the word "Secede?" Go figure out and see how is it related to tea parties!

I had no idea that an African American becoming Prez of the US would have so many people lose their minds. The hate for Barack Obama is driving these people crazy.

Texas has an idiotic governor threatening to have Texas Secede from the US because he supposedly hate the govt. spending and control over the country. But he thought the Patriot Act was an awesome idea and who supported GW Bush spending.

I hope Department of Homeland Security up its game and up the Prez and his family security....Seriously!

Notice that the Fox coverage avoided letting people talk for themselves, for fear of the showing the same level of ignorance among the participants evidenced on CNN's coverage.

Fox stuck with Hannity and company to interpret what the people were saying and amplifying it.
The truth is these angry people, overwhelmingly white and apparently not very well educated, feel powerless as the country moves on to a multicultural model that does not automatically give them an advantage.

Just beneath the surface you can sense the impotent rage at being left behind in the guise of talking about their kids' future...after all where was the rage when Bush was running up the deficits over the past eight years for a feckless war?
Sad, basically stupid people they are...

Taxes have to be there....they just have to be moderated such that the average American ends up not bearing the bulk of it. If there was no Tax where would the stimulus money come from?
The TEA parties were completely legitimate because they were not for eradication of Taxes....but they wanted to send a message to the government to "stop spending too much"....and moderate the taxes.
Ndio maana Tanzania masikini kwasababu kodi haikusanywi ipasavyo.

Brutus, rejea maelezo kuwa tax imeonegezeka kwa wale wenye kumake more than $250k,wenye kumake less ndio asilimia kubwa ya wamarekani, elewa kwamba movement hiyo imetekwa na haters.
