The visit to Camp 5 took place amid a mass hunger strike that is now entering its fourth month and counts 103 prisoners as taking part in the protest and 32 who are being force-fed. Media arrived at the camp at 4:30 am and were instructed to remain silent as the officer in charge of the camp did not want prisoners to know we were present. The prisoners did not leave their cells for prayer so we were unable to see them. What you are hearing (at 3:00 into the video) is the leader's call to prayer being done from inside of his prison cell. The closest we in the media came to a seeing a prisoner on the cell block is when one man stuck his arms through a bean hole to hand the guard an unknown object. The guards walking the block are checking the prisoners cells every one to three minutes in accordance with their standard operating procedures. They are wearing "splash shields" over their faces to protect from being splashed with urine and feces, the military said.
As we exited the camp and waited outside for the gate to open, I looked up behind me and could see three very narrow prison cell windows. In one stood a prisoner dressed in white. He stared at me and gave me a "thumbs down" sign.

Wapiganaji 30 wa kundi la wanamgambo la Hezbollah wanaripotiwa kuuwawa katika mapigano yaliyotokea katika mji wa Qusayr nchini Syria huku wengine zaidi ya 70 wakijeruhiwa.
Duru za kuaminika zinasema wapiganaji wa Hezbollah wanaoshirikiana na wanajeshi wa utawala wa Rais Bashar al Assad wamekuwa wakikabiliana na waasi kwa wiki moja sasa katika eneo la Qusayr ambalo ni muhimu kwa sababu inaunganisha Damscus na pwani ya nchi hiyo na pia iko mpakani na Lebanon.


Majeshi ya Syria yamechukua udhibiti wa mji wa Qusayr, uliokuwa ngome ya waasi

'Shirika la kutetea haki za binadamu nchini humo lenye makao yake nchini Uingereza limesema karibu watu 55 wameuwawa katika mji huo wengi wao wakiwa ni waasi mbali na wapiganaji wa Hezbollah na wanejeshi wa serikali. Kulingana na shirika hilo ambalo linategemea taarifa na takwimu kutoka kwa wanaharakati,madaktari na wanasheria walioko nchini humo kiasi ya watu 94,000 wameuwawa tangu mzozo wa Syria kuanza mwezi Machi mwaka 2011.

Uvamizi huo wa jeshi katika mji wa Qusayr ulianza jana huku wapinzani wa Assad wakionya kuwa mashambulio ya kinyama katika mji huo huenda ukadidimiza juhudi za Marekani na Urusi za kuandaa mkutano wa amani unaonuia kumaliza vita hivyo vilivyosababisha vifo vya maelfu ya wasyria.

la kitaifa la upinzani Syria likitaka jumuiya hiyo kukutana na kumaliza kile ilichokiita mauaji ya halaiki mjini Qusayr.
Huku hayo yakijiri,eneo la Golan linalokaliwa na Israel limelengwa kwa risasi kutoka Syria usiku wa kuamkia leo lakini hakuna majeraha au uharibifu ulioripotiwa. Kulingana na msemaji wa kijeshi wa Israel ufyatuaji huo ulikuwa wa kutumia silaha ndogo na unaaminika haukulenga milima hiyo kimakusudi.

Na shirika la kimataifa la misaada la Oxfarm limetoa wito wa misaada zaidi kusaidia wakimbizi wa Syria walioko Lebanon na Jordan na kuonya kuwa hali ya hewa ya sasa itaongeza madhara ya kiafya kutokana na ukosefu wa makaazi, maji na maeneo ya kujisaidia huku mapigano kati ya wanajeshi wa serikali wanaosaidiwa na wanamgambo wa Hezbollah dhidi ya ngome za waasi yakichacha nchini Syria.

Shirika la Oxfarm limesema linahitaji dola milioni 53 ili kuboresha huduma za maji na usafi kwa ajili ya wakimbizi wa Syria na kufikia sasa shirika hilo limepata msaada wa dola milioni 10.6. Shirika hilo limesema kuwa kuharisha na magonjwa ya ngozi yameanza kuonekana miongoni mwa wakimbizi hao walioko Jordan na Lebanon. Nchi hizo mbili zinawahifadhi wakimbizi milioni 1.5 ambao wamekimbia vita vya wenyewe kwa wenyewe nchini mwao. Oxfarm imesema inahitaji ufadhili huo haraka iwezekanvyo kwa sababu viwango vya joto vinatarajiwa kupanda katika wiki chache zijazo katika eneo hilo.

Mcheza sinema maarufu wa Kimarekani, Angelina Jolie, ametangaza kwamba amefanyiwa operesheni ya kuondosha matiti yake yote mawili ili kupunguza uwezekano wa kupata saratani ya maziwa na ya kizazi.
Kwa mujibu wa makala yake iliyochapishwa leo kwenye gazeti la The New York Times na kupewa jina "Chaguo langu la kitabibu", Angelina Jolie amesema ameamua kutangaza jambo hilo hadharani ili kuwapa moyo wanawake wengine wenye historia ya familia zinazouguwa saratani.
Mama yake mwenyewe Angelina alifariki akiwa na miaka 56 kutokana na maradhi hayo. Sasa muigizaji huyo maarufu wa sinema duniani, anasema anawataka wanawake wenye hali kama yake kutafuta ushauri wa kitabibu na kufanya uamuzi baada ya kuwa na taarifa za kutosha ili waweze kuendelea kufanya kazi, kama alivyofanya yeye.
"Licha ya kuweza kulifanikisha hili na kubakia kimya kwa muda mrefu, sasa naandika kulitangaza kwa sababu natarajia kuwa wanawake wengine wanaweza kufaidika na uzoefu wangu." Ameandika mjumbe huyo maalum wa Umoja wa Mataifa juu ya masuala ya wakimbizi.
Uamuzi mgumu lakini muhimu
Muigizaji Angelina Jolie (kulia) na marehemu mama yake Marcheline Bertrand mwaka 2001.
Jolie aliamua kufikia uamuzi huo wa kuyaondosha matiti yake yote mawili, kwa sababu alifahamishwa na madaktari wake kwamba alikuwa na chembechembe inayoongeza hatari ya kupata saratani kwenye maziwa yote mawili na kwenye fuko lake la uzazi.
Kutokana na chembechembe hiyo iitwayo BRCA1, madaktari walikisia kwamba alikuwa kwenye kiwango cha asilimia 87 ya hatari ya kupata saratani ya maziwa na asilmia 50 ya kupata saratani ya kizazi.
"Baada tu kujua kwamba huo ndio ukweli kuhusu hali yangu, niliamua kuchukua hatua za kabla na angalau kupunguza kiwango hicho cha hatari kadiri nilivyoweza. Nikafanya uamuzi wa kuondosha matiti yangu yote mawili. Nilianza na maziwa kwa kuwa saratani ya maziwa ni kubwa zaidi kuliko hatari ya ile ya fuko la uzazi, na operesheni ya fuko la uzazi ni kubwa zaidi," ameandika Jolie.
Mwanamke huyo mwenye umri wa miaka 37 amesema kwamba tarehe 27 Aprili alikamilisha miezi mitatu ya taratibu za kitabibu kuhusiana na operesheni hiyo ya kuondosha matiti na kwamba sasa kiwango cha uwezekano wa kupata saratani kimepungua hadi asilimia tano.
Jolie na mumewe, ambaye pia ni muigizaji maarufu, Brad Pitt, wana watoto watatu wa kuwazaa na watatu wa kuwalea, na ameandika kwamba sasa anaweza kuwaambia watoto wake kwamba hawapaswi kuwa na hofu ya kumpoteza mama yao kwa sababu ya saratani.

“The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes each,” the paper said without identifying the maids or specifying the harm they caused.
Saudi Arabia, which strictly enforces Islamic law, has beheaded many persons convicted of practicing magic over the past years.
More than two million domestic servants work in Saudi Arabia, mostly from Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Africa.

More than 250 Christian families have been threatened and thrown out from their homes in the village Chak 31 in Khanewal district, in southern Punjab.
A report drawn up by two human rights groups said: "What happened in South Punjab reflects the increase of violence and abuses against religious minorities in Pakistan" and "recalls the serious episode of the attack on Joseph Colony, a Christian area of Lahore, which happened two months ago".
In the aftermath of the recent elections, the 'Human Rights Commission of Pakistan' and 'Organization for Development and Peace' have launched an urgent appeal "to all parties: politics, political parties, civil society, religious organizations, in order to operate actively to mitigate religious intolerance and promote social cohesion."
The appeal was launched "in the interests of the country and not only for the protection of the rights of minorities."Each of the families put to flight by Islamic extremists had about six people, therefore at the moment the faithful without a home are more than 1,500. The escape was the solution chosen to avoid a massacre.
The episode started with a 'provocation'. About 15 days ago, some Muslims accused a Christian businessman, Asher Yaqoob, owner of a small grocery store, and his Christian customers of having disrespectful attitudes towards Islam, inciting the faithful of the nearby village, "Chak 30" , all Muslims.
Christians called the police, but a police officer, instead of protecting them, became the leader of a crowd of 60 Muslims who began to beat anyone they encountered and started destroying homes and shops. Clashes followed and one man was shot and killed. At the news of the death, the crowd threatened a mass attack and set fire to the entire village. The Christian families had no choice but to flee immediately. In the clashes 20 Christians were arrested by the police. The two organizations - the HRCP and ODP reported everything to the police in Multan and have asked the intervention of the civil and religious authorities to restore peace between the two villages.

Sayed Shah Sharifi, a former translator for Canadian forces in Afghanistan, is devatated at the loss of five relatives back home, including three children and his beloved sister. They were killed by a roadside bomb set up by militants, after constant threats against Sharifi and his family.

When Sayed Shah Sharifi’s family heard that distant relatives had been killed in a roadside bomb attack, they decided to pay their condolences to the survivors. On the morning of May 13, seven of them set off from Kandahar for their ancestral village of Maruf, a remote and violent district about 100 kilometres away.

But sometimes in Afghanistan, tragedy begets tragedy. As they reached an area local residents call “horror valley,” their 4x4 vehicle hit a roadside bomb. Five were killed. Two were injured.

The improvised bomb was set up by the Taliban to punish Sharifi for once working as a combat interpreter for the Canadian military in Kandahar.Sharifi is safe in Canada. Instead the militants took their revenge on his beloved sister, on his brother’s wife, and on his niece and two nephews, aged between 8 months and 4 years. His nephew Sharif Khan, 5, was badly hurt.
“Everything that happens is God’s decision, right? He decides what to do,” said Sharifi, his voice breaking with emotion. “Everybody’s gone. Shafeeqa was my best friend and close sister.”

The real scandal about the IRS is that they’ve been overwhelmed with dark money groups claiming nonprofit status since the passing of Citizens United, and conservative groups have outspent liberal groups on political spending by 34-1, according to a Center for Responsive Politics analysis of the IRS and FEC records.

Open Secrets reported, “Conservative nonprofits that received tax-exempt status since the beginning of 2010 and also filed election spending reports with the Federal Election Commission overwhelmed liberal groups in terms of money spent on politics, an analysis of Internal Revenue Service and FEC records shows.”

Furthermore, their analysis showed, “Of the 21 organizations that received rulings from the IRS after January 1, 2010, and filed FEC reports in 2010 or 2012, 13 were conservative. They outspent the liberal groups in that category by a factor of nearly 34-to-1....”

...Karl Rove’s Crossroads is the biggest spender, reporting spending more than $87.9 million since 2010, but it’s still waiting to be officially approved as tax exempt. Gee, do you think the IRS will be able to be objective when it comes to Crossroads’ overtly political purpose, or will they feel pressured to rubber stamp Karl so as not to cause offense...?

In a Tuesday interview with evangelical radio host James Dobson, Bachmann noted that the House of Representatives had recently voted for the 37th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act and that she was hopeful that the Democratically-controlled Senate would do the same.

“I think the President will ultimately be forced to repudiate his own signature piece of legislation because the American people will demand it,” she explained. “And I think before his second term is over, we’re going to see a miracle before our eyes, I believe God is going to answer our prayers and we’ll be freed from the yoke of Obamacare.”

Michigan’s Board of State Canvassers on Wednesday approved a ballot petition that seeks to prohibit health insurance companies from covering abortion procedures, even in cases of rape or incest. The initiative would require abortion coverage to be purchased as a separate rider.

If the activist collect signatures from 3.48 percent of all registered voters in the state, lawmakers can adopt the initiative without a signature from Gov. Rick Snyder. The Republican governor vetoed a similar proposal last year.

And that is why I intend to engage Congress about the existing Authorization to Use Military Force, or AUMF, to determine how we can continue to fight terrorists without keeping America on a perpetual war-time footing.

The AUMF is now nearly twelve years old. The Afghan War is coming to an end. Core al Qaeda is a shell of its former self. Groups like AQAP must be dealt with, but in the years to come, not every collection of thugs that labels themselves al Qaeda will pose a credible threat to the United States. Unless we discipline our thinking and our actions, we may be drawn into more wars we don’t need to fight, or continue to grant Presidents unbound powers more suited for traditional armed conflicts between nation states.

So I look forward to engaging Congress and the American people in efforts to refine, and ultimately repeal, the AUMF’s mandate. And I will not sign laws designed to expand this mandate further. Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organizations must continue. But this war, like all wars, must end. That’s what history advises. That’s what our democracy demands.

As they met in Jerusalem, Kerry praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the “seriousness” with which he is looking at ways to revitalize peace hopes. Kerry expressed optimism without outlining any concrete strategy for ending a stalemate between the two sides that has seen them hardly negotiate one-on-one at all over the last 4½ years.

“I know this region well enough to know there is skepticism, in some quarters there is cynicism and there are reasons for it,” Kerry told reporters. “There have been bitter years of disappointment. It is our hope that by being methodical, careful, patient — but detailed and tenacious — that we can lay on a path ahead that can conceivably surprise people and certainly exhaust the possibilities of peace.”

“That’s what we’re working towards,” said Kerry, who met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas later Thursday in Ramallah.

Netanyahu said his conversation with the top American diplomat would touch on mutual concerns about Iran and Syria. “But above all,” he said, “what we want to do is restart the peace talks with the Palestinians.”
